DIVISION ONE – HEARTBREAK FOR HAMZA MOHAMMED AS LATE GOAL DENIES RTU WIN

23rd February, 2014

Tamale Utrecht Division one side scored a dramatic late goal to deny former Black Stars midfielder, Hamza Mohammed a much-needed win as he appeared to have taken the role of Alhassan Dawuo as RTU assistant manager as the game at the Tamale sports stadium ended 2-2.

Substitute Abdulai Alhassan[ Abu Imoro] was instrumental as he tormented the defense of the home side in the build up to their second goal. Abu came on for Mohammed Song and quickly made an impact as he fired a short wide after a through ball from Tawrik.

Though Abu brought stability into the game when Utrecht were in control, it was man of the match Razak Patrick who stole the show with his speed and composure  rescuing a point with just six minutes  remaining to deny the Pride of the North.

Abdul Rahaman and Hashim had given RTU a two goal lead as early as the 9th minute but the home side failed to build on their advantage.  RTU had much the better of the first half going close on two occasions through Wisdom Kelly  and Solomon Grant but Utrecht kept their composure until the 30th minute when  Nuhu Salifu and Razak Patrick capitalized on a loose ball in midfield to pull one back before the break before break.

Shortly before half time Uttrecht manager Mumuni Gamel, who remains optimistic of the team’s chances since taking charge of the club, introduced Abu from the substitutes’ bench and the striker lifted his side massively.

They dominated the second half and created a number of chances as RTU sat deep, seemingly happy to defend their lead.

But their lack of ambition cost them, and Razak Patrick, who had been a revelation on the day, scored from close range to earn Utrecht a point.

Utrecht remain in 4th position, a point adrift of second placed Wa Africa United and will travel to Bolga on Sunday as they push for qualification.
