TAMALE UTRECHT BREEZ PAST BAZOOKA IN DIVISION ONE LEAGUE

16th February, 2014

Tamale Utrecht Division one side kept pace with RTU and Wa Africa United at the top of the Division one league Zone 1A by coasting to a 3-1 win at the Academy Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Coach Mumuni Gamel’s men headed into the game under pressure after their closest contenders for places in the Zone, RTU and Africa United won their respective matches on  Saturday.

However, Utrecht responded in supreme fashion with an assured performance that condemned relegation-threatened Bazooka to a fifth defeat in the competition.

Salifu Nuhu opened the scoring for the home side on the 40th minute after a difficult first thirty minutes and having wasted a couple of chances especially in the first five minutes of the game, he made no mistake after a good work by winger Razak Patrick from the left flanks.

Two minutes after the opener, Razak Patrick opened his Utrecht accounts by doubling the lead after a dangerous move by captain Vincent Deyi

Tamale Utrecht should have added a third just after the half-hour mark when Razak somehow dragged his effort wide of the near post following a sweeping move that sliced through the home defense.

Razak, who tormented the defense of Bazooka had a clear opportunity denied by the visitor’s goalkeeper and Utrecht continued to craft the better of the game, Vincent Deyi twice drawing smart saves from the goalkeeper with a pair of long range-drives.

Bazooka did come back into the game and enjoyed a prolonged spell of pressure in the early stages of the second period which eventually yielded a goal in the 51st minute.

But any hopes of a comeback from the visitors  were put to bed after 81 minutes as Mohammed Song connected an indirect free kick inside the penalty area.
