FC Utrecht were bundled out of the KNVB Beker cup on Wednesday after losing to NEC Nijmegen at the quarter finals stage.

Marnick Vermijl's eighth-minute effort sealed a 1-0 win over fellow top-flight side FC Utrecht

Eredivisie leaders Ajax maintained their bid for a domestic double by booking their place in the semi-finals of the KNVB Beker with a 3-1 win over Feyenoord on Wednesday night.

The meeting between the Eredivisie heavyweight was predicted to be a tight affair with just four points between them in the league standings, and so it proved as little separated them for long spells.

Feyenoord went ahead in the seventh minute through Jean-Paul Boetius, but the hosts hit back when Viktor Fischer swept home a 34th-minute leveller.

Ajax went ahead on 68 minutes through Bojan Krkic, but the result remained in the balance until stoppage time when substitute Thulani Serero added the Amsterdammers' third. while PEC Zwolle ended the impressive cup run of third-tier JVC Cuyk after easing to a 5-1 victory.

PEC were never in any danger of slipped to an upset and raced into a 3-0 lead by the break thanks to strikes by Bart Van Hintum, Maikel Van der Werff and a Joris van Gerwen own goal.

It was 4-0 with an hour gone as half-time substitute Denis Mahmudov fired home, and although JVC pulled one back through Kevin van Veen, the final word went to the hosts as Mahmudov made it five with 12 minutes left.

Reigning champions AZ Alkmaar complete the line-up for the semi-finals after their 2-0 win at Roda JC on Tuesday.
