TUFA starts second academic year

11th of September, 2013

Today TUFA-JHS has resumed and started the second academic year. Last year major progress was made and all students have been promoted to form 2. The average score per student rose from 50% to 73% and the number of fails reduced massively. “With these scores I am positive that most if not all students will pass their BECE exams in two years to come”, said Head Mistress Jolanda Goes.

Talking to teachers and students some reasons for the impressive results are mentioned. First of all the relationship between teachers and students became strong. Most students feel free to participate in class now. Teachers are committed, deliver extra classes and experiment with different teaching methods. Surely the life skills program also yielded results with respect to making students aware of the importance of education. They are learning to set goals and work towards them. Last but not least the extra English classes have contributed a lot; those students involved have reduced their total number of fails from 17 to 3. A big applaud for them.

Most prominent student of last year was Jalaldeen, who moved up from position 24 to position 16. Aaron was TUFA’s first role model who moved up six positions right after the alignment program and reached a position in the top 5. Other names not be left out are Naeem who worked very hard last term and got his place back again the top 5, Kamaldeen who made major progress during term 2 and not to forget Mohamud and Majeed who did not only improve in terms of education but also grew a lot in terms of discipline and attitude. Generally each and every student made progress.

Yesterday the start of term meeting was held among teachers in which goals for this academic year were set. The educational staff is committed to consolidate the results and expand on it to make sure that all 27 students will pass their BECE. Extra classes including the extra language class will be continued. In addition more attention will be given to revision skills and monitoring of individual students.
