MATCH IRREGULARITIES DENIED TUFA A HISTORIC WIN

2 January, 2013

A must win friendly match was made possible for Premiership side Berekum Chelsea by match officials at the Berekum Senior High School Park when they scored in injury time to beat Tamale Utrecht Football Academy 2-1.

Poor field marking denied TUFA Baba Mubarak a penalty after the nimble footed player was brought down by the goalkeeper. Following what was wrongly marked on the ground to demarcate the penalty area, the referee judged the incident outside the marked penalty area. The irregularity was however confirmed after the game when TUFA took measurement of the field and realised the penalty area was reduced from the 18 yards to 12 yards.

The game was tied 1-1 after the home team went ahead through Sadick Adams with Adam A. Basit equalising for TUFA from close range.

In the 5th minute of added time, Berekum Chelsea captain Abdul Basit was allowed from an offside position by the referee to score for his side win to add to the numerous irregularities in the game.

Speaking to tufaghanafc.com, Technical Director of Berekum Chelea Hans van der Plyum hailed the quality of the team and believes the Kasalans can compete very well at any level following the stiff opposition they have encountered.

‘We struggled to get this results and it has given us more ideas to prepare our team ahead of our weekend clash with Ashglod in Obuasi’ Hans Said.

The Kasalans go into their last match in Wenchi as they play Unity FC on Thursday.
