AL-ITIFAQ SMASHES GALAXY UNBEATEN RUN IN DIVISION TWO

Zone 1A group two league leaders Galaxy FC today lost their first match in the on-going Northern Region division two league after recording wins in their last seven matches. The league title favourites lost to their closest contenders Al-Iitifaq 2-1 at the Tamale Kaladan Park today in the week 2 of the second round fixtures.

The mid-week intriguing encounter between the two sides provided a repeat of the first round 1-0 win for Galaxy FC as Al-Itifaq cruised to a comfortable 2-0 lead to end the first half through Abdul Mashud Manan and Yakubu Alhassan.

The visitors who were hoping to get back into the game lacked understanding in attack and failed to hit the back of the net after several attempts at goal.

Al-Itifaq FC reeled under intense pressure from the Galaxy attack but was resolute in defense and made effective runs on the counter that were not however translated into goals to stretch their lead.

The incessant Galaxy attack on their defense forced them to commit a foul in the penalty area and without any hesitation, Damongo base referee Ewuntogmah pointed for a spot kick which was converted by Abdulai Zama for a consolation, however late in the game.

Al-Itifaq now moves to the second position after Liberty had also lost 2-0 away in Jisonayili to Sky FC.

In other results Tamale Utrecht on-loan striker at Gagdu Stars Simon Blaise snatched an important away win for his side when they beat Coach Mohammed Alala Sylla Ultimate FC 2-1 at Ghanasco. The tall and lanky striker connected from a cross to win the match for his side after both sides ended the first half 1 goal apiece.

Meanwhile Tolon Jagbo Stars beat Daboya Wasipe United 2-1 at Tolon.
