TUFC IN THE FINALS:BEAT STUBBORN LIBERTY AT LAST

Tamale Utrecht FC (TUFC) today beat their arch rivals Liberty Babies at the Ghanasco field to book a place in the division two finals in a 5-4 penalty shoot-out after both sides failed to produce goals in regulation time.
TUFC made early incursions in the first half and could have led before the half time mark. However Strikers Alhassan Kalusha and Jafaru A. Somed failed to capitalised on the defensive lapses of Liberty Babies ending the first half in a stalemate.
In the second half, TUFC were again aggressive upfront and pinned Liberty to their own half in most part of the game. Diminutive striker Adam A. Basit could have earned a penalty for his side when he was fouled by Liberty goalkeeper in the penalty area and but for the referee’s poor decision.
Alhassan Kalusha was substituted for Alidu Mohammed Awal after picking an injury and struggling Hamdan Yakubu was also replaced by Adam A. Basit in the second half.
The defence of the 10-man Liberty Babies contained with alacrity the sharp attack of the Utrecht boys attracting every player of TUFC in their half and that nearly resulted in a goal for Liberty after TUFC were caught on the break moments before the referee whistled for the end of the game and pinched the two sides into a 5-4 thrilling penalty shoot-out.
Jafaru A. Somed open scoring and Yussif A. Basit added the second. Goalkeeper Sulemana Firdaus saved Liberty first kick and TUFC Captain Muniru A. Aziz, Adam Ibrahim and Sulemana Firdaus scored to book a final clash with Dynamos FC that also beat Sawla United 1-0 in regulation time.
