"Family visit"

26th  of December, 2010

At first glance it seems a Christmas family visit. However, a closer reveals a serious matter. Abu, his wife and their daughter went to Ghana in order to orientate themselves on their emigration to Ghana, which will take place early 2012. Jolanda: "The last time I was in Tamale is five years ago. The city has changed, but I feel at home immediately."

Jolanda’s decision to move to Ghana was mainly based on emotions. However, within the process towards the actual arrangements she felt the need to account for the decision rationally as well. "Especially for our daughter", she says. "But when I watched the training of our boys yesterday, everything fell into place. It is great to see how proud these guys are to play for TUFC and to think about how many other people we can achieve through our social projects. It no longer feels like a choice I have to make myself. This is how it should be."

The upcoming year Abu and his family will commute regularly between The Netherlands in Ghana, in order to establish strong foundations for the cooperation between the Dutch and Ghanaian. In 2012 Abu, Jolanda and their daughter will settle in Tamale permanently.
